Shatto 39 Lanes is a multi-layered spot in Koreatown where bowling meets evening laid-back hangouts. This isn’t your typical glowing slick chain alley—it's a place with a steady local vibe that fits neatly into one of LA’s busiest neighborhoods.

Primarily known for its bowling lanes, Shatto 39 appeals to both casual players looking for a relaxed night out and more serious bowlers who come prepared with their own gear. The lanes themselves are well-maintained but lean toward a straightforward style that doesn’t cater much to trick shots—so if you’re aiming for those perfectly curved throws, bringing your own bowling ball will help. On weekend nights, especially Fridays, expect a lively crowd and possibly a waitlist, showcasing just how much this spot resonates with local groups and families celebrating occasions without the chaos of packed city nightlife.

The underneath parking garage adds a layer of convenience but demands some careful maneuvering with tighter spaces—smaller cars have an edge here. Staff tends to be friendly and the service flows smoothly, smoothing the transition between games and downtime.

Beyond bowling, the scene spills into a bar and pool hall, creating a casual social atmosphere. The soundtrack typically leans towards good, unobtrusive music that supports relaxed conversation rather than overwhelming the lanes. The bar serves up decent drink options alongside reliable crowd-pleasers like well-made nachos, making it a comfortable spot to unwind without the high energy or volume of a typical nightclub.

Shatto 39 works well for varied group sizes, from birthday celebrations with family to easygoing meetups among friends. It’s especially well-suited for those who want to enjoy a classic hobby with a low-key crowd, away from tourist hotspots but still central within the pulse of Koreatown’s nightlife.

Visiting during weekday evenings or Christmas can offer a quieter, almost tradition-building feel, whereas weekend nights deliver a busier, more social energy. The presence of security and ID checks is part of what keeps the place balanced between a fun community hangout and a responsible nightlife venue.

Great atmosphere and well-maintained lanes. Staff was friendly and service was smooth. Good music, decent drink selection, and a fun place to unwind without the crowds or chaos. Would definitely return for a relaxed night out.

Decent pricing for bowling. Security’s around the parking and establishment. Definitely cool vibes and great ratio. If you’re a decent or pro bowler, the lanes aren’t made to curve the balls. They aren’t waxed to perfection, unless you bring your own bowling ball, for better curves. They have a bar, great nachos and Pool tables too. Cool spot.

This bowling alley seems to be a longstanding location in Koreatown for bowling. Hugely popular on weekend nights so you might have to sign up for a waitlist to get a bowling lane. There is free parking underneath the building but it is very tight so you should have a smaller car and check all your mirrors and cameras to adjust. They check IDs at the entrance because there is also a bar there. Lots of families with small kids here during peak hours. For bowling, shoe rentals are $5 per person and you can rent the lane by number of games or by the hour. Machines are intuitive to use and work well, staff are helpful when there are any further issues. Very straightforward and fun to bowl here. There are snacks if you’re hungry and small arcade games here too if you’re looking for other smaller activities.

Christmas Day bowling was a blast. It was one of the few places open and we were pleased with the experience. My family wants to make this a tradition.

This retro bowling alley feels like a time capsule from the ‘70s. The neon lights and old-school scoring screens add to the charm. It’s casual and inexpensive, which makes it perfect for a fun night out. The food is nothing fancy, but it hits the spot after a few rounds. I liked that it had a real community feel rather than a trendy vibe
